Monday 24th May 2010: The Annual General Meeting
This will be held at 8pm in Room 10 at the Methodist Church Hall, Otley. All members are welcome.
Tuesday 8th June 2010: The 48th Annual Dinner
This will again take place at Otley Golf Club, at 7 pm for 7.30pm. The Society’s guest this year is Dr Terry Suthers, D.L., Director Emeritus of the Harewood House Trust.
Monday 5th July to Friday 9th July 2010: West Country Houses and Gardens
We shall visit a number of houses and gardens in South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire that have strong associations with Thomas Chippendale senior and junior. These will include Stourhead, Wilton House, Corsham Court, Badminton and possibly Stanway House. Wherever possible the visits will be private and with an expert guide. We will be staying at the comfortable Old Bell Hotel in Malmesbury.
Recent Events
Tuesday 4th May 2010: Visit to Grimsthorpe Castle, Bourne, Lincs,
This was a joint Chippendale Society/Leeds Art Collections Fund visit to this fine house with its Vanbrugh facade. Grimsthorpe has superb collections of works of art assembled by the Dukes of Ancaster and their descendants including a remarkable series of royal thrones. The Chippendale furniture was inherited through a connection with the Heathcote family. The visit included a coach tour of the magnificent park with the estate manager joining us on the coach; a two course lunch; a private guided tour of the Castle and time to see the gardens.
Tuesday 13th April 2010: Visit to Admiral Long’s Endowed School, Burnt Yates, near Harrogate.
A small group of members of the Chippendale Society visited the Trustees’ Room, a remarkable and untouched survival of this 18th century school, with the historian Mrs Andrea Ives. The school was founded in 1760 by the naval hero Admiral Long. William Chippendale of Farnley (Thomas’ cousin) may have been the person engaged for much of the building work and for fitting out the trustees’ room.
Tuesday 23rd March 2010: Study Day at Temple Newsam: 11.00 – 3.30
Early Georgian Furniture 1715 - 1740
This was led by Dr Adam Bowett who, in the morning, discussed the development of the furniture trade in London in the early 18th century, as well as different types of furniture and their stylistic and technical changes during this period. In the afternoon there was a practical handling and discussion session with some key pieces of furniture in the Temple Newsam collections.
Tuesday 15th December 2009: Christmas Event.
A group of members visited Broughton Hall by coach and afterwards enjoyed a festive lunch nearby at the award winning Bull at Broughton.

Carving and Gilding
Workshop day at Temple Newsam House This was led by Ian Fraser, Conservator at Temple Newsam,
and Mike Howden, virtuoso carver. The Day included a visit
to the Conservation Workshop.
28th June – 1st July 2009:
Visit to Kelso and houses of the Scottish Borders and Lothian Nineteen members and guests of the Chippendale Society and the Leeds Arts
Collection Fund travelled by coach from Yorkshire, and stayed
at the Ednam House Hotel overlooking the river Tweed at Kelso. Special
visits were arranged to a number of houses: Floors Castle, Arniston
House, Dalmeny House, Mellerstain House, Gosford Park and Tyninghame
House, some of which are in private ownership. On our way we
stopped at Alnwick for lunch and visited the magnificent Castle, and on
the way home we visited Paxton House.
